The Parish Nurse program is a healthcare ministry of the church which encourages an individual’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being in the context of their relationship with God, family and neighbor. Through the Parish Nurse program, the parish seeks to develop creative ways of addressing needs and identifying resources to nurture health, wellness and healing of members of the parish as well as members of our Paducah community.

The Parish Nurse acts as a:

  • health counselor by providing confidential listening. Personal visits are made in homes, hospitals and other facilities, such as nursing homes and assisted living as well as scheduled appointments at the church;
  • health educator by facilitating educational programs, providing materials for groups or individuals. Provides materials for self education for all ages in the church;
  • referral source by assisting and identifying community health resources and agencies to the needs of our clients.

Examples of Parish Nurse activities include: visitation of parishioners (and non-parishioners if requested) in the hospital or in their homes, phone calls after a hospital stay/surgical procedure, keeping abreast of parishioners with chronic illnesses (care needs, medication, answering general health questions), providing Eucharist to homebound parishioners, blood pressure screenings on the first and third Sundays of the month, collaborating with other church ministries such as Reading Camp, Safety & Security committee and the Good Samaritan Benevolent committee as well as participating in two quarterly healing services at Grace.

   Prayer for Healing

Lord Jesus, heal me.

Heal in me whatever you see needs healing.

Heal me of whatever might separate me from you.

Heal my memory, heal my heart, heal my emotions, heal my spirit, heal my body, heal my soul.

Lay your hands gently upon me and heal me through Your love for me.

Amen.
